Glyco Harmony Green Tea: How Much Extract Can the Label Hold?

Quick answer

Glyco Harmony green tea is Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Leaf Extract, name 7 of 22 in a 200 mg blend. By the label rule it weighs at most 200 ÷ 7 = 28.6 mg per 1 mL, and the exact amount is not printed. Green tea extract has liver injury reports, mostly from tablets and capsules.

On the label01

What is green tea extract in Glyco Harmony?

Green tea in Glyco Harmony is "Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Leaf Extract", the seventh of 22 names in the Proprietary Blend.

It is a concentrated extract of the tea-plant leaf, a source of catechins and some caffeine. Brewed tea and concentrated extract are not the same thing, and most of the safety concerns below belong to extracts.

The marked crop highlights the green tea line. Other names share the highlighted lines, so the marking covers more than green tea.

The arithmetic02

How much green tea is in Glyco Harmony per serving?

The label does not print it. It can weigh at most 28.6 mg per 1 mL, because the 200 mg blend lists names in descending order by weight (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).

The rule works like this. Name 7 can never outweigh names 1 to 6, so it cannot be more than a seventh of the blend: 200 ÷ 7 = 28.57 mg. Most names sit well below their ceilings, so the real amount is probably lower.

Compare that with a safety figure. EFSA judged 800 mg a day of EGCG from supplements probably safe, as reported by the UK Committee on Toxicity (UK COT, Green tea catechin liver statement). The ceiling of 28.6 mg of extract is 3.6% of 800 mg, and an extract is not pure EGCG. That is context, not an assurance, because sensitive people can react at lower amounts.

The research03

What does research say about green tea extract?

Research on green tea extract points to at most a small effect on body weight. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health does not discuss blood sugar on its green tea page (NCCIH, Green Tea).

The Office of Dietary Supplements lists green tea among weight-loss ingredients with limited evidence (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Those are weight studies, not studies of Glyco Harmony.

The profile sets the label next to the research.

Main cautionLiver injury is uncommon but reported, mostly with extracts in capsules and tablets. It can lower blood levels of nadolol and atorvastatin.

Safety04

Can green tea extract harm the liver?

Yes, in rare cases. Green tea extract has caused liver injury, including liver failure, and the reports mostly involve extracts in capsules or tablets, not brewed tea (LiverTox, Green Tea).

The federal LiverTox database gives green tea extract its highest likelihood score for liver injury. In one trial it lists raised liver enzymes in 6.7% of extract users against 0.7% on placebo. The NCCIH adds that people with a certain immune gene variant, about 5 to 15 percent of Americans, may be more susceptible (NCCIH, Green Tea).

We cannot say whether the green tea in these drops is enough to matter, because the amount is not printed. Stop and call a doctor for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or pain under the right ribs.

Caffeine too

Green tea carries caffeine, and the blend also lists guarana, another caffeine source (MSK, Guarana). If you are sensitive to caffeine, count both.

Medicines05

Does green tea extract interact with medicines?

It can. The NCCIH reports that green tea may lower blood levels of nadolol and atorvastatin, and it lists raloxifene as another interaction (NCCIH, Green Tea).

That is a reason to tell your pharmacist about any extract, including one inside a blend. Keep taking prescribed medicine, and never change insulin or diabetes medicine because of a supplement. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you add one.

Statins and beta blockers

Atorvastatin and nadolol levels may drop. Do not adjust either on your own.

Liver conditions

If you have liver disease or a past liver reaction, ask a doctor before any green tea extract.

Caffeine limits

Heart rhythm problems, pregnancy and sleep trouble are reasons to ask first.

Before you order07

Does Glyco Harmony help with blood sugar because of green tea?

No cited source shows that green tea extract helps with blood sugar, and no study tested Glyco Harmony. The label front says "Blood Sugar Support*", and the star leads to the FDA statement (FDA, Questions and Answers on Dietary Supplements).

If green tea is your reason to buy, the label cannot confirm an amount. The pricing page lists the offers, and the checkout shows live prices and guarantee terms.

FAQ08

Glyco Harmony green tea questions

Does Glyco Harmony contain green tea?

Yes. The label lists Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Leaf Extract as the seventh of 22 names in the 200 mg proprietary blend. No exact amount is printed, so the real content per serving is not known.

How much green tea extract is in Glyco Harmony?

The label does not say. By the descending-order rule, name 7 weighs at most 200 ÷ 7 = 28.6 mg per 1 mL. If one dropper is 1 mL, that is at most 57.1 mg at 2 droppers a day.

Does the green tea in Glyco Harmony have caffeine?

Green tea leaf is a caffeine source, but the label prints no caffeine amount. The blend also lists guarana, another caffeine source. If you are sensitive, count both and ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Is green tea extract safe for the liver?

Usually, but not always. LiverTox rates green tea extract as a well-established cause of rare liver injury, mostly with capsules and tablets. Stop and call a doctor for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes.

Is the green tea extract here the same as drinking green tea?

No. The label lists a leaf extract and prints no strength. Liver reports center on concentrated extracts, and LiverTox says drinking tea has not caused the same injuries. Do not treat the two as equal.

Can green tea extract change how my medicines work?

It may. The NCCIH lists nadolol, atorvastatin and raloxifene as interactions, and says green tea can lower blood levels of the first two. Tell your pharmacist about every supplement before you start.

Is green tea in Glyco Harmony studied for blood sugar?

We found no cited source on green tea and blood sugar. The NCCIH page covers body weight and safety, and finds at most a modest weight effect. No study has tested Glyco Harmony itself.
