Glyco Harmony African Mango: At Most 50 mg, Studied for Weight

Quick answer

Glyco Harmony African mango is African Mango (Irvingia gabonesis) Seed Extract, name 4 of 22 in a 200 mg blend. It weighs at most 200 ÷ 4 = 50 mg per 1 mL, about 1.6% of the 3,150 mg a day used in trials. Those trials measured weight, not blood sugar.

On the label01

What is African mango in Glyco Harmony drops?

African mango in Glyco Harmony is "African Mango (Irvingia gabonesis) Seed Extract", the fourth of 22 names in the Proprietary Blend.

The plant is Irvingia gabonensis, and the label misspells the species as "gabonesis". The extract comes from the seed. It is not the mango you eat, and the photo below shows an ordinary mango for that reason.

The arithmetic02

How much African mango is in Glyco Harmony per serving?

The label does not print it. African mango can weigh at most 50 mg per 1 mL, because the blend lists names in descending order by weight (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).

Name 4 cannot outweigh names 1 to 3, so it is at most a quarter of the 200 mg blend: 200 ÷ 4 = 50 mg. If one dropper is 1 mL, that is at most 100 mg at 2 droppers a day. Most names sit below their ceilings, so the real amount is likely smaller.

Trials gave far more. The Office of Dietary Supplements reports no concerns at up to 3,150 mg a day for 10 weeks (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). A ceiling of 50 mg is about 1.6% of that.

Side by side03

How does the African mango amount compare with studied doses?

The label ceiling is a small slice of the studied amount. Three steps show why, and the filter below shows where the name sits among all 23 lines.

  1. Take the blend

200 mg per 1 mL serving, shared by 22 names.

  2. Apply the rank

    Name 4 can be at most 200 ÷ 4 = 50 mg.

  3. Compare

Trials used up to 3,150 mg a day, so 50 mg is about 1.6% of it.

A studied dose says what was tested, not what works for you, and no study tested Glyco Harmony.

From the Supplement Facts panel, in label order, per 1 mL serving. The blend lines show ceilings (or the floor for name 1), not amounts. Other ingredients (glycerin, water, organic lemon extract, stevia extract, xylitol, preservatives, citric acid, natural flavors) carry no amount.

The research04

What does research say about African mango?

Research on African mango seed extract is small and weak, and it is about weight. A review of three trials with 208 people found more weight loss than placebo, but the trials were poor quality and the authors did not recommend it (Onakpoya et al. 2013, Irvingia review).

The Office of Dietary Supplements reaches a similar view: a possible modest effect from small trials (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). We found no trial of African mango on blood sugar.

The sales page lists African mango seed among its named nutrients (Glyco Harmony sales page). That is marketing, not evidence.

Safety05

Is African mango safe, and who should ask first?

African mango was well tolerated in the trials, but one case needs attention: kidney failure was reported in a person with chronic kidney disease (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).

Reported side effects in the three trials were headache, trouble sleeping and gas, at rates not different from placebo (Onakpoya et al. 2013, Irvingia review). The trials were short, so long-term safety is unknown.

  • Kidney disease: ask your doctor before any supplement with African mango.
  • Pregnant or nursing, or under 18: the label says to consult a physician.
  • Keep taking prescribed medicine. Never change insulin or diabetes medicine because of a supplement.

For other cautions in the blend, see the side effects page.

Claims06

Does African mango help with blood sugar?

No cited source shows that African mango helps with blood sugar. Its trials looked at weight, and nobody has tested Glyco Harmony.

The label front says "Blood Sugar Support*", and the star leads to the FDA statement: not evaluated by the FDA, not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease (FDA, Questions and Answers on Dietary Supplements). Evidence for a single ingredient in a different amount does not carry over to a finished mix (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

Where it sits

African mango is one of 23 label lines. See the others on the ingredients page and the full arithmetic on the proprietary blend page.

Before you order07

What should you check before buying Glyco Harmony for African mango?

Check that you are buying a 22-name blend, not an African mango product. If that name is your reason, the label cannot confirm an amount.

FAQ08

Glyco Harmony African mango questions

Is there African mango in Glyco Harmony?

Yes. The label lists African Mango (Irvingia gabonesis) Seed Extract as the fourth of 22 names in the 200 mg proprietary blend. The exact amount is not printed, so the content per serving is not known.

How much African mango is in Glyco Harmony?

The label does not say. Name 4 weighs at most 200 ÷ 4 = 50 mg per 1 mL, and at most 100 mg at 2 droppers if one dropper is 1 mL. The real amount is likely lower.

Is African mango the same as the mango fruit?

No. The extract comes from the seed of Irvingia gabonensis, a different plant from the common mango. The photo on this site shows an ordinary mango only because the brand's image set supplied it.

Is African mango in Glyco Harmony for weight loss?

The label makes no weight claim. African mango is sold for weight loss, and small trials of poor quality found more loss than placebo. Those trials used far more than the 50 mg ceiling.

What dose of African mango was used in studies?

The Office of Dietary Supplements reports no concerns up to 3,150 mg a day for 10 weeks. Other trials used different doses. A 50 mg ceiling is about 1.6% of that top figure.

Can African mango harm the kidneys?

One case of kidney failure was reported in a person who already had chronic kidney disease. Cause was not proven. If you have kidney disease, ask your doctor before any supplement that contains African mango.

Are there side effects of African mango?

In three small trials the reported effects were headache, trouble sleeping and gas, at rates close to placebo. Those trials were short and poorly designed, so rare or long-term effects may be missed.
