Glyco Harmony Amino Acids: L-Arginine, L-Carnitine, GABA and Five More Names, Checked Against Research Doses

Quick answer

Glyco Harmony lists eight amino acids and related compounds in its 200 mg blend: L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, L-ornithine, L-tryptophan and L-carnitine. The label gives no single amounts. Together their ceilings reach about 91 mg per 1 mL, far under the grams used in studies.

The eight names01

Which amino acids are in Glyco Harmony?

Eight of the 22 blend names are amino acids or close relatives: L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, L-ornithine, L-tryptophan and L-carnitine. They fill positions 14 to 17 and 19 to 22.

They are the last names in the list, so the label puts them among the lightest in the blend. Position 18, the licorice salt, sits in the middle of them and has its own licorice profile.

The label prints "L-Typtophan", a typo for tryptophan. We use the usual spelling in the text.

The numbers02

How much L-arginine, GABA and L-carnitine is in Glyco Harmony?

The label does not say. It prints a 200 mg blend total per 1 mL, and the descending-order rule caps each name at 200 divided by its place in the list (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).

All eight ceilings together come to about 91 mg, and the real amounts are probably lower. If one dropper is 1 mL, two droppers a day double each figure.

14L-Glutamine14.3 mg
15L-Tyrosine13.3 mg

Against research doses03

Is the dose of amino acids in Glyco Harmony close to what studies used?

No. For the names with a studied dose, the label ceiling is a fraction of a percent of it to a few percent at most.

Studies of L-arginine used 2 to 20 g a day (NIH ODS, Exercise and Athletic Performance). A ceiling of 12.5 mg is under 1% of even the lowest figure (12.5 ÷ 2,000). L-carnitine trials used 0.25 to 4 g a day (NIH ODS, Carnitine fact sheet). A ceiling of 9.09 mg is about 3.6% of the lowest (9.09 ÷ 250).

Beta-alanine studies used 4 to 6 g a day (Trexler et al. 2015, ISSN beta-alanine position stand), so 11.8 mg is about 0.3% of the lowest. Glutamine was tested near 45 g a day (NIH ODS, Exercise and Athletic Performance). The bars set L-arginine and L-carnitine against the low end of the studied range, next to chromium and African mango.

Coral bars: the amount on the Glyco Harmony label per 1 mL serving, or the most a name in the blend can weigh. Teal bars: the low end of the daily amount used in the research we found, set to full width. A studied dose says what was tested, not what works for you, and no study tested Glyco Harmony.

A ceiling is the most the label could hold. A study dose shows only what was tested, not a recommendation.

What research shows04

What does research say about each amino acid?

Mostly sports and safety work, little on blood sugar from these names at label-sized amounts. For three of the eight, we found no verified source.

Eight names: what a source says and what it does not
NameWhat a source says
L-glutamineNo benefit for muscle; case reports of liver and kidney problems at long-term high doses (MSK, Glutamine)
L-tyrosineNo verified source found
L-arginineLittle or no sports benefit in 54 studies (NIH ODS, Exercise and Athletic Performance); may lower blood sugar and blood pressure (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine)
Beta-alanineSports research only; tingling mostly above 800 mg per dose (Trexler et al. 2015, ISSN beta-alanine position stand)
GABANo verified source found
L-ornithineNo verified source found
L-tryptophanA 1989 outbreak of a blood and muscle illness was tied to contaminated products; history, not a statement about this bottle (CDC MMWR 1989, Eosinophilia-myalgia and L-tryptophan)
L-carnitineA 41-trial analysis found lower fasting glucose and A1C, but four trials in type 2 diabetes showed no A1C change (NIH ODS, Carnitine fact sheet)

The carnitine result is the closest to blood sugar. It used 250 mg to 4 g a day, far above the label's ceiling, so it cannot be applied to this bottle.

Medicine checks05

Are the amino acids in Glyco Harmony safe with diabetes medicine?

Ask first. L-arginine has a source saying it may lower blood sugar, so a diabetes medicine dose may need adjusting (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

The same source says arginine may drop blood pressure too low with blood-pressure drugs, nitrates or sildenafil, and may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners. Those are statements about arginine in general. The amount in this bottle is unknown and capped at 12.5 mg.

L-arginine

May lower blood sugar and blood pressure. Not advised after a recent heart attack, per the source.

L-carnitine

About 3 g a day can cause nausea and cramps, and seizures are possible in people with seizure disorders (NIH ODS, Carnitine fact sheet).

L-tryptophan

Tell your pharmacist if you take an antidepressant. This is general caution, not a source finding on this blend.

Keep your plan

Keep taking prescribed medicine and never change insulin or diabetes medicine because of a supplement. Confusion, fainting or a seizure needs 911 (CDC, Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia)).

Reading the label06

What should you check about the amino acids before buying?

Check whether any claim about an amino acid can be tied to this bottle. None can, because no amounts are printed.

  • Studied doses are in grams; the label ceilings are in milligrams.
  • GABA, tyrosine and ornithine have no verified source here, so claims about them have nothing to rest on.
  • The label says pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician.

The FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Questions and Answers on Dietary Supplements). Prices are on the pricing page, per the brand's offer; confirm at checkout. The full blend is on the proprietary blend page.

FAQ08

Glyco Harmony amino acids FAQ

Is L-arginine in Glyco Harmony?

Yes, as L-Arginine Base, name 16 of 22. Its amount is not printed. By the descending-order rule it weighs at most 12.5 mg per 1 mL, far under the 2 to 20 g studied.

Does Glyco Harmony contain GABA?

Yes, GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) is name 19 of 22, at most 10.5 mg per 1 mL. We found no verified source on GABA, so nothing is claimed about it here.

Is there L-carnitine in Glyco Harmony?

Yes, L-Carnitine Base is the last name in the blend, so it weighs at most 9.09 mg per 1 mL. Trials of carnitine used 250 mg to 4 g a day.

Why does the label say L-Typtophan?

It is a typo for L-tryptophan, an amino acid the body turns into serotonin. We keep the printed spelling on label tables. Tryptophan is name 21, at most 9.5 mg per 1 mL.

Can amino acids in supplements lower blood sugar?

A source says L-arginine may, so diabetes medicine doses might need adjusting. The effect is described for normal supplement doses, not this bottle's tiny ceiling. Ask your pharmacist.

Are the amino acids in Glyco Harmony drops or powder?

The product is liquid drops, and the label lists the amino acids inside the 200 mg blend. Glycerin and water head the other ingredients. How each name is carried in the liquid is not printed.
