Do Insulin Resistance Supplements Work? A Plain Look at the Studies
Insulin resistance supplements have small, mixed studies behind them, and the American Diabetes Association finds no benefit from supplements for people without a deficiency. Chromium trials show changes of unclear importance. Eating, activity and prescribed care have firmer support. Ask a doctor before adding any supplement.

What are insulin resistance supplements?
They are products sold with the idea that they help the body respond better to insulin. Insulin resistance means cells respond less well to insulin.
It is linked to prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, and a blood test such as the A1C is how those are found. Supplements are not tests and not treatment. The American Diabetes Association finds no benefit from herbal or other supplements without a deficiency (American Diabetes Association, Vitamins and Supplements).
What do studies of single supplements show?
Studies show small or inconsistent changes, usually with short trials and small groups.
| Supplement | What sources report |
|---|---|
| Chromium picolinate | Pooled trials: changes not statistically significant; authors called a recommendation premature (Yin and Phung 2015, chromium and A1C) |
| Gymnema | Modest drops in fasting glucose in some trials; effectiveness not established (LiverTox, Gymnema) |
| L-carnitine | Mixed results; larger trials needed |
These can interact with diabetes medicine, so low blood sugar is possible. Ask your pharmacist first.
What has stronger support than a supplement?
Weight loss, healthy eating and activity can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in people with prediabetes (CDC, Diabetes Basics).
- Get your A1C checked and read the result with your doctor.
- Eat well and move more, in steps you can keep.
- Take prescribed medicine as directed, and never change it because of a supplement.

See packsHow does the Glyco Harmony label compare?
It prints 0.7 mcg of chromium and a 200 mg blend of 22 names, far below the amounts those trials used.
Chromium at 0.7 mcg is under 1% of the 200 to 500 mcg in chromium-only products. The bars show the label's ceilings against studied amounts. No study tested this product. See the insulin resistance guide for more.

FAQ01
Glyco Harmony questions people ask
Is there one supplement that fixes insulin resistance?
No, none is proven. The American Diabetes Association finds no benefit from supplements without a deficiency. Chromium has the most studies, but pooled results were small and not statistically significant. Ask your doctor before adding anything.
Can supplements reverse insulin resistance?
No source we found shows that. Weight loss, healthy eating and activity have firmer support for people with prediabetes. A supplement is not a substitute for medical care or prescribed medicine.
Is Glyco Harmony an insulin resistance supplement?
The label says only "Blood Sugar Support*" and names no condition. It is a dietary supplement, not a diabetes medicine, and no study tested it. Talk to a doctor about insulin resistance.
